Fashion Icon

I am not someone who you would consider a fashionista by any means. In fact, I don't even really consider myself fashionable. Most of the time when I go in the mall, I see things that are currently trendy and I think, "what the hell is wrong with these people?". If I had to classify my style, I guess it would probably be classic. I like to invest in wardrobe pieces that are never going to go out of style, and can be suitable for any occasion. Which brings me to my favorite fashion icon. Lilly Pulitzer.

I love Lilly Pulitzer dresses because they are bright, fun and timeless. You can take the same Lilly shift dress and put it on a 20-year-old college girl or her 50-year-old mother and both of them will look fabulous in it. In fact, that is exactly what I do. My mom and I wear each other's Lilly dresses all the time. Lilly's fashions embody a classic style that works for any age.

My love for Lilly started in high school. I lived 30 minutes from Palm Beach, which is like the Lilly Pulitzer mecca. I fell in love with the bright, colorful patterns and fully believed that the "louder" the Lilly dress, the better. Of course, once I got to FSU and joined a sorority it was like a breeding ground for Lilly addicts. Even now, my go to dress for any special occasion is a Lilly Pulitzer design.

As you can imagine, I was deeply saddened (as I'm sure sorority girls across America were) when I heard the news yesterday. My beloved fashion icon, passed away at 81 years old. As soon as the news broke, social media was blowing up with her life story which I know very well. Still, it was very interesting to read her story over again. Fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer dies at 81

I feel like her designs were a direct reflection of who she was. She loved for people to be happy and having a good time, all the time. Her dresses truly reflect that. How could you possibly be mad when you are covered in so many bright patterns? Whenever I put on one of my Lilly dresses, I instantly feel happier. I don't think it is possible to not have a good time when you are wearing Lilly Pulitzer. I believe that is exactly what Lilly would have wanted her legacy to be.

So put on your brightest sundress, go out and live life the way Lilly would have wanted you to.

Spring Break Essentials

I am officially on Spring Break y'all. Besides the fact that there is currently a monsoon taking place outside, I am really excited about my plans for the upcoming week. My essentials for this year are not your typical Spring Break items. No bikini or flip flops here...not saying that I won't go to the beach at least once, I do live in Florida after all. I am going to be spending the majority of my Spring Break hiking and exploring our local state parks. Don't worry, I'm bringing along the Nikon with me so I can bombard you with endless photos of nature later on this week...hold back your excitement please. So without further adieu, here are my 2013 Spring Break Essentials...

1. North Face backpack - lucky for me North Face backpacks were really popular when I was in middle school (that's Bolles for you) so I already own one of these babies thanks to mommy and daddy.

2. Costa del Mar sunglasses - yes, I own frat boy sunglasses...for all my outdoor fratty activities.

3. Merrell hiking boots - I love these boots because they are super comfy and they don't look like hiking boots. Don't forget the pink accents :)

4. Lilly Pulitzer croakies - gotta have something to keep my sunglasses on, so I might as well work some Lilly into my hiking apparel.

5. Nike tempo shorts - I own an unhealthy number of these shorts. ("Norts" as my fellow sorority girls call them) Obviously they are my go to shorts for all outdoor activities in addition to my regular uses for them. (aka: every occasion other then work or church)

6. Camelbak water bottle - since I can't pack my Tervis tumbler in my backpack, this will have to do. Gotta stay hydrated!

7. North Face jacket - just in case the Florida weather decides to change suddenly (because that never happens here). Another item from my middle school days thanks to my parents. I guess it was worth the money because I'm still using it after 13 years.

Happy Spring Break!

Train Wreck

Last night was a pretty epic evening of television. I still can't decide which was program ended up being a bigger train wreck, the season premiere of The Bachelor or the BCS National Championship. Both were absolutely horrifying.

But first, let's rewind about 6 months. I never watched this Bachelor/Bachelorette nonsense until last summer. My sister-in-law lived with us over the summer and forced me to watch it with her. Much to my dismay, after the first two episodes, I was hooked. Damn her. After that season ended, I swore I would never watch that crap again. And then Sean from last season became the new Bachelor. Damn it again.

So last night I had a decision to make: The Bachelor season premiere or the BCS National Championship? Pre-"summer of 2012 Jacki" would have never even hesitated in that decision. Football always comes first. However, I let my guard down and decided to watch The Bachelor in our bedroom while Jared watched the game on the big screen. I figured that by the time The Bachelor was over, it would be halftime and I would be able to catch the rest of the game. Boy, did I make the right decision. During commercial breaks, I would switch over and watch a few minutes of the bloodbath game and then go back to my far more entertaining television program. I watched part of the second half before declaring this the most boring game of football ever played and going to sleep.

So here are my thoughts on the 30 minutes of the BCS National Championship that I did actually watch...

- I feel bad for the Notre Dame fans that paid like $1500 to witness that butt-kicking in person. Yuck.
- Alabama won another national title. Whoop-dee-do. Who cares. I really wanted Notre Dame to win just so that someone else could have a turn.
- Sometimes I wonder about the stylists they hire to dress the ESPN College Gameday analysts. Whoever put that tie on Urban Meyer should be fired. Immediately.
- Jared and I have decided that we think ESPN reporter Samantha Steele is pregnant and that is why her and Christian Ponder (Minnesota Vikings quarterback and former FSU quarterback) got married after only dating for like a month. She has been wear lots of flowy shirts lately...perhaps?
- AJ McCarron's girlfriend, Katherine Webb, is freakin' adorable. My sorority sister, Anna, works for the company that produces some of the pageants here in the southeast and she actually knows Katherine personally (Katherine was Miss Alabama in 2012). Let's just say, he's a lucky guy.
- Overall, the game was boring and disappointing. A game between the best two teams in the country should at least be exciting and remotely close in score. Oh well, football season is over now. Sad face.

Now, onto the bigger and more exciting train wreck of the evening, The Bachelor...

Sean and his ladies...who all apparently dressed for the senior prom?

First of all, I feel bad for some of these girls and their parents. Especially their parents. I can't imagine what it must feel like to watch your daughter make an ass of herself on national television. Each time one of the girls got out of the limo I would think to myself, "there's no way that she can be crazier than that last one". And then she was. I understand that there are 25 girls meeting him and each one wants to make a lasting impression, but some of these girls went a little over board.

So I think that more than anything, The Bachelor can teach us what not to do when meeting a cute guy for the very first time...

- Arriving in a wedding dress. That's not funny. It's crazy.
- Attempting to do a back walk-over in a floor-length gown and falling on your head in the process.
- Pulling a silk tie from your cleavage and making inappropriate 50 Shades references.
- Attempting to dress like Cinderella and talk in a fake Southern accent.
- Proclaiming that your father is going to break his legs if he breaks your heart.
- Making it obvious that you had too much to drink on the ride in
- Singing while looking like an oompa loompa. Just say no to spray tanning.

Ultimately, I think my favorite girls so far are Lesley and Sarah. I liked Tierra when she first got out of the limo, but I am thinking that she is going to cause a lot of drama ultimately. Mostly based off the fact that in the upcoming previews, they show her acting crazy, being mean and screaming at the other girls, and then getting hauled off in an ambulance on a stretcher. Karma? This is going to be one hell of a season.

My sister-in-law has a sorority sister who writes a phenomenal blog about reality television. You can read her commentary on last night's episode here. She sums up the episode well, gives the play-by-play and her commentary is much more entertaining and witty than mine. It's a good read. Enjoy.

Oh, How Pinteresting!

Once in a blue moon, I actually talk about fashion on my blog. It doesn't happen often, but today's Oh, How Pinteresting! post is all about my favorite fashion color...navy. Every time I see something that I like in a store, it is usually navy. I could honestly dedicate an entire section of my closet to my navy clothes. I love navy because it is sophisticated, classic, and never goes out of style. It is appropriate for absolutely every occasion, every season and pretty much goes with everything. I could seriously wear navy every day of my life. I wouldn't consider myself an expert on fashion, but I must say that every girl needs some classic navy style in her closet!

If I could borrow clothes from one celebrity's closet, it would definitely be Kate Middleton. She is so fabulous, and I obviously have a serious girl crush on her. I honestly feel like she is pretty much the Jackie O. of our generation. Plus, she wears a lot of navy...and looks damn good doing it.

Spring into Lilly

The Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2012 line has arrived! I can already hear Jared and my credit cards crying in terror. Side note: Phi Mu ended up being one of the lucky winners of the Greek Prints contest for Lilly Pulitzer as well! Maybe I should go ahead and buy some stock in Lilly because between the Phi Mu print coming out and this new spring line, I have a feeling that this is going to be the Summer of Lilly in my life.

Of course, I have already perused the new spring line and picked out some of my favorites!

Fabulous Fall Challenge: Day 2

Hey, I made it to Day 2 of the challenge. Go me! In case you missed the memo, I'm linking up with Neely and Amber for their Fabulous Fall Blog Challenge for the next two weeks.

Fabulous Fall Blog Challenge

Today's topic is Fall Clothes and Trends

I would not consider myself a trendy person, in fact, I just wear what ever I like despite whether it is "in style" or not. This is why I love fall fashion. It is so easy. You can wear jeans, a sweater and boots everyday and it is perfectly acceptable. In fact, that is exactly what I do everyday for all of the cold weather months. Anyways, despite my lack of trendiness, here are some of my favorite styles for fall.

Wrap sweaters actually look good on me because I am so tall. It makes me look long and lean :)

Boots, boots, and more boots!

They may be lacking in attractiveness, but I still love my UGG boots.

You can't have fall fashion without Gameday dresses!

Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!
