FSU Homecoming

This past weekend was FSU Homecoming so of course we had to make the trek to Tallahassee for the occasion. We only went for the day on Saturday to the game and then headed back to Jacksonville, but it was worth it!

I just love all the traditions that surround football at Florida State!

Two of my Phi Mu sisters, Kenzie and Kathryn, were on Homecoming Court this year. They were absolutely beautiful at the game and I am so honored to call them my sisters. LIOB

My mom even came over for the game.

Jared's mom and dad came as well so it was quite the family affair. FSU beat Duke 48-7 which made it an awesome Homecoming to say the least! Go Noles!

Every morning the people in my neighborhood block the entire right lane at the entrance to our neighborhood waiting on the bus to come pick up their kids. So the rest of us who are trying to get to work have to wait and try to maneuver around them to get out of the neighborhood. Meanwhile, an empty parking lot at the clubhouse sits a mere 50 feet away that they could easily park in instead of blocking the road. Rude.

We had a fundraiser at school where students could pay to send "boo-grams" to each other for Halloween. One of my students sent this to a girl in our class. It makes me giggle :)

It's that time of the week again! And this Thursday is even better than usual because we have a Teacher Planning Day on Friday so that means today is my last day with the children for the week!

FSU vs. Miami

This past weekend, we traveled to Miami (gross) for the FSU vs. Miami game. Technically, we stayed with our friends in Ft. Lauderdale because I like to spend the least amount of time humanly possible in the city of Miami. Despite my dislike for South Florida, it was great to visit with our friends and cheer on the 'Noles!

This was probably the last time that I am going to get to see Christina with her baby bump before little miss Ava arrives. I can't wait too meet our newest little Seminole!

Their stadium is so hideous...way too much orange. However, it does serve beer so I can't hate on it too much. Thankfully, my Seminoles pulled out a victory and we beat Miami 33-20.

Happy Birthday

Today is my sister-in-law's birthday! Growing up, my mom and I would always joke about what special kind of woman was going to one day relieve her of her duty of taking care of my brother. Chris was lucky enough to find someone who loves him, his inappropriate comments and his 13875987 hobbies. Plus, I got an awesome sister-in-law out of it. She is turning the big 3-0 today and I hope she has a wonderful birthday!

Project 365 - Week 42

Um, where did October go? This month has been flying by and I can't believe that it is almost over. The fall is so exhausting for me. I have decided that I have a love/hate relationship with football. It literally consumes my life during the fall. Don't get me wrong, I love football season, but I do get a little tired of being out of town every weekend and never having a spare minute to relax. Oh well, I guess I can relax over Christmas Break :)

Throwback Thursday: Sibling Love

Two Beers and a Mayonnaise Jar

You may have seen this post on Facebook, but one of my friends emailed it to me and I liked it so I decided to share. I think it gives a pretty interesting perspective on life and I have been working really hard lately at letting go of the small stuff and appreciating all the blessings I do have, so I think this applies to my life currently...

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full..

The students responded with a unanimous "yes".

The professor then produced two beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed...

"Now", said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life".

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls."

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children.

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.

The professor smiled and said, "I'm glad you asked."

The beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers with a friend.

Happy Gameday! This was quite a week for me. Chaotic to say the least. Although I did get into a car accident and total my car, I did get a brand new car out of it. Blessing in disguise? I guess so :) Have a wonderful weekend!
