Week 25: February 19 - February 25
Week 25 Milestones:
- Baby is the size of a cauliflower this week! She is packing on some fat and growing more hair. The hair follicles were clear before, but now her hair actually has it's color and texture. She has a sense of equilibrium and knows which way is up and which way is down. She also wakes up to loud sounds and responds to familiar sounds. The only sound I've really noticed her responding to is Sadie's bark. Sadie has a very loud and distinct bark and whenever something gets her barking, I now notice that by bark two or three I am starting to get kicked. So not only do I have the pleasure of having to listen to Sadie's obnoxious bark, but I also get kicked in the uterus every time she does it. Please do not knock on my front door people, I beg you. I can also see her moving around from the outside really well now. Sometimes I just sit on my couch, staring at my belly, watching her move. It's kinda freaky looking, but I love knowing that she is in there partying and that I can see it all happening.
- My total weight gain thus far is 22 pounds. Apparently my uterus is now about the size of a soccer ball, which is a terrifying visual for me. There is a soccer ball. Inside me. That's rather large. However, it definitely looks like I have a soccer ball under my shirt, so that's probably pretty accurate. I've also read that my hair should be feeling thicker around this time because my hormones are decreasing the shedding process. My hair must have missed that memo because my bathroom floor and my vacuum cleaner are not seeing a difference.
- I have noticed that sometimes my legs feel kind of tingly, like I just can't get comfortable and I need to move them around when I'm sitting down for an extended period of time. Apparently, this is an actual condition and it is really common at this stage of pregnancy. It's called Restless Leg Syndrome. It is very well named, might I add, because that is exactly what it feels like...like my legs are restless and can't help but want to move them around. I was surprised to find that this condition is usually caused by anemia in pregnancy. Every time I go to the doctor, my iron levels look great so I am obviously not anemic. I guess my legs are just restless.
- The most exciting thing that happened this week was that I had to take the dreaded glucose test and I passed!! I was pretty nervous about having to do this glucose test. People made it sound like it was the most terrible thing ever. Uh, it was not that bad at all. However, I probably have a skewed perspective on what is considered an unpleasant experience in the OB's office. When you have been through the various procedures involved in multiple IUIs and IVF like I have, chugging a bottle of sugary orange syrup in 2 minutes is a piece of cake. The important thing here though is that I passed the screening with good blood sugar levels and great iron levels. Go me! So naturally, after my appointment I treated myself to a coke icee :)
- Food preferences: I can't believe that I still despise eggs and chicken as much as I do. Jared make himself on omelet for breakfast on Sunday and I begged him to eat it as fast as he could and get the smell away from me. He also made himself a chicken breast last night for dinner (I got to have the one leftover venison burger, yum) and the same thing happened as with the eggs, I could not get that smell away from me quick enough. Other than those two things, I can tolerate pretty much anything else. My favorite foods currently are waffles, milk, oatmeal raisin walnut Cliff bars, salad, pasta, coke icees, green apples and string cheese.
- We also celebrated daddy's birthday this week! He turned 28.
Lola is going to be so sad when the baby comes and she isn't getting all of my attention anymore. Uh oh.
