Peyton Brooke {6 Weeks}

Peyton turned 6 weeks old last Friday, July 25th, and I'm just now getting around to writing this post. I also recently realized that there were a bunch of posts that I intended on writing (like sharing Peyton's nursery, etc.) that I still haven't gotten around to doing! This little munchkin keeps me busy, but I promise I will get around to writing them eventually. Mommy problems.

I know I said that I was switching to only doing monthly posts, but a lot has happened recently and I felt like 6 weeks was a pretty big milestone! I also wanted to try and avoid the 2 month post ending up as a short novella instead of a blog post.

Mommy has been a hot mess since my last update. I kept feeling like I was getting a cold, but I never actually got sick (which was good)...except that I just felt like crap for two weeks. Then, I got two fever blisters on the inside corners of my mouth. I've never had a fever blister in my entire life until now. Apparently, my mom never had a fever blister either until she delivered my brother...and ever since then she randomly gets them. Pregnancy hormones are so insane and who knew that being pregnant could cause you to get fever blisters?! I had no idea that pregnancy would cause so many weird, non-belly-related, permanent things to happen to my body. Once you have the virus in you, it's there to stay, so I guess I am officially and forever more one-who-gets-fever-blisters. Super. All I can think about now, is Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect saying, "well at least it's not herpes, or do you already have that as well?" Boo hormones. The worst part of having these fever blisters was not being able to kiss my sweet baby girl (or get her anywhere near my face for that matter) for over a week! I was so sad. I think Jared was a little upset that I didn't miss kissing him as much as I missed kissing Peyton, but I told him that I have a reservoir of 8 years worth of kisses from him to hold me over, but Miss P has only been here for 6 weeks and she can't kiss me back yet. But I really did miss him too :) Luckily, some Abreva helped me get rid of those pesky little buggers and I'm back to kissing my baby girl (and my husband) again. Additionally, I somehow still feel so tired all the time. I just don't get it. Peyton sleeps all night and so do I, and yet I'm already tired as soon as I get up in the morning. Will I ever feel normal again?

Over a week ago, Peyton started getting really gassy after her feedings and spitting up more than usual. I tried changing up some of her feeding routines in hopes of helping her out, as well as cutting back on the amount of dairy in my diet. I know a lot of nursing moms who give up dairy altogether while breastfeeding due to their baby having an allergy to the proteins in cow's milk. Peyton's gas was never really terrible and rapidly improved within a few days, so I don't think that she actually has an allergy to the milk protein. However, I think that less dairy for me could still help her and probably help me lose some of my baby weight in the process. I am a serious dairy addict. I love dairy. I eat way to much of it. Take whatever the recommended daily serving of dairy is and multiply it by like 10 and that is how much dairy I take in every day. I love milk, cheese, ice cream, cheese, milk, cheese...and pretty much everything that contains dairy. I buy two gallons of milk per week for our household...and I'm the only one that drinks milk in my house. Yeah, it's that serious. Therefore, I figure just cutting out the majority of my dairy intake (with a few cheats every now and then) would probably help at least a little. I'm basically avoiding dairy completely when I'm at home making my own food. I'll save my dairy cheats for when I eat out in a restaurant and can't completely avoid it, or when I'm eating dinner at someone's house because I don't want to inconvenience anyone. I'm now exactly one week dairy free and so far, so good. I already feel better and Peyton isn't nearly as gassy anymore. We all win. I think I'll keep up my limited dairy intake for now, saving my indulgences for special occasions :)

Sleep patterns: Peyton currently sleeps 7.5 hours at night (typically from 10:30pm - 6am). She then takes a 3 hour nap after her 6am feeding (typically from 6:30-9:30am). She also takes 2-3 other naps throughout the day, usually around 1-2 hours in length. She would sleep a lot longer during her daytime naps, except that I always have to wake her up for her next feeding. I hate having to disrupt her naps to feed her, but I have to make sure that she eats frequently enough in order to gain adequate weight. If I just let her sleep as long as she wanted, then she would go 5+ hours at a time during the day without eating. Since she goes so long at night without eating, I can't let her go too long during the day too. I have to pick a time to wake her up and I surely don't want to mess up that nice long sleep she give me at night :) Once she gets older, then I won't have to bother her as often. Thank goodness.

Feeding patterns: Peyton currently has 5 feedings and eats every 3.5 hours during the day. I wake her up a little before 6am for her first feeding and then she eats at 9:30am, 1:00pm, 4:30pm, and finally at 8:00pm. I nurse her for the first 4 feedings and then Jared gives her a 6 ounce bottle of breast milk at her last feeding. Sometimes I have to alter her schedule if I need to be out somewhere at a specific time, but that doesn't seem to bother her at all which makes life a lot easier. She goes with the flow :)

Peyton currently loves...cooing and smiling all the time, mommy singing Disney songs to her, WubbaNub pacifiers, her play mat, staring at light fixtures and ceiling fans, being talked to and watching faces, laying on Daddy's chest, holding on to your fingers, being propped up on your shoulder or knees so she can look around, sleeping in night gowns (but her feet have to be able to stick out of the bottom), flailing her arms and legs, and being naked.

Peyton currently dislikes...being trapped in her car seat with a wet diaper, being wrapped or confined in any way, anything that covers her arms/legs/hands/feet, being dried off after her bath (she likes the actual bathing part now), being burped, being in her swing or bouncy seat for too long, having a wet diaper in general, and when she knocks her paci out of her mouth and can't get it back.

I have officially lost 32 pounds of my pregnancy weight. Only 13 pounds left to go! Thankfully, I got the all-clear from my doctor at my 6 week postpartum appointment last Friday to start exercising again. Hooray! I have already started taking Miss P for power walks around the neighborhood every evening. Bye bye baby weight.

Jared's grandma came to visit from Colorado. She stayed with Jared's mom for two weeks and would come over to see Peyton almost every day. Lots of quality time with great-grandma, Moo Moo!

We took Peyton out to dinner in a restaurant for the first time. She got to sit at the head of the table like a big girl and she sat in her first high chair! I was completely unaware that if you flip a restaurant high chair upside down, it becomes a stand to hold the car seat carrier up to the table height. Mind blown. Thank goodness for my knowledgeable husband and restaurant hostess for enlightening me.

I wanted to try letting someone other than Jared give Peyton the bottle, so Auntie Erika was my first victim. She did a great job and Peyton drank the bottle from her faster than she ever had before! I guess Jared has a little competition now :)

I just love dressing up this little munchkin and taking her places with me :)

Peyton met her cousin AJ Jr. for the first time. (They are really 3rd cousins if you want to get technical on the family tree) They are only 2.5 weeks apart and I can't wait to have lot of fun play dates in the future!

Peyton was baptized on July 20th (Read my post about it here)

My dad always had this crooked little smirk that he would do (my brother does it too sometimes) and we call it the Rocky smile. Peyton makes this same face all the time and absolutely love it. I'm so glad that there is a little piece of my dad in her :)
