I have recently developed a stye in my eye, which is not only uncomfortably annoying but also really irritating to describe to other people because I sound like Dr. Seuss.
I have diagnosed myself with this stye through WebMD. I mean who needs a real doctor when you have WebMD. When I described what was going on with my eye to my mother she said that she thought it was a stye so I looked up "stye" on WebMD and it described exactly what I was experiencing. Plus, my family has had our fair share of not so awesome experiences with some doctors. I feel like every time I go to the doctor, they charge me 50 bucks to tell me something I already know. Additionally, my father and I are terrified of doctors and would just assume provide our own medical care for each other :)
For those of you who don't know what a stye is, here is the "normal human being" description of it; not the "I'm a doctor and I'm going to charge you 50 bucks to throw fancy Latin medical words that you don't understand at you" description. Essentially, it is a little red lump (kinda like a pimple) on the inside of your eyelid...gross. It is caused by bacteria growing at the root of your eyelashes and causes an infection to develop in one of the little oil glands inside your eyelid.
About 2 days ago, my left eye started to bother me when I would blink hard or apply pressure on my lower eyelid. Yesterday, I finally noticed a little red bump on the inside of my lower eyelid. So I turned to WebMD to figure out how to treat this little bugger. It says that a stye takes about a week to heal and really the only thing you can do for it is to apply warm compresses 3-6 times a day and not wear contacts or make-up until the stye completely heals.
Um excuse me....not wear make-up for a week? I guess I'll be taking a week off of work then. I'm pretty sure that hell would freeze over before I would dare go to work without make-up on. Let's be real here...I look like a dead person without eye make-up on and I work at a middle school. In addition, my students are neither nice nor polite so I would prefer to not be bullied by 12 year olds for an entire week for looking like crap.
Thus, I have come up with this compromise...I am going to relax and take very good care of my eye this weekend. I have no plans, so staying inside with no make-up and warm compresses is very do-able. Then by Monday, I should be able to manage 8-10 hours in eye make-up.
Here's hoping that this doesn't get worse and force me to have to go to the doctor next week...yuck.

also, you shouldnt use the same make up again, at least def the eye liner... or just sharpen it down a lot :)
ReplyDeleteoh you are so smart...I didn't even think about that!!! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteSo...does this little bugger open to the inside or outside of your eyelid? If the little hole (where the pus will eventually come out of) is on the outside, it's a stye (infection of the hair follicle of the eyelash). If it's on the inside, it's a chalazion, which is a little bit more convoluted. Check that out too. Also, where on the eyelid is it? If the swelling is near the tear duct, it's called a dacryocystitis. Press on the thing and see if "ick" comes out of it. If so, squeeze the hell outta it and use all that other info MedMD said. It'll clear up soon, and DEF don't use the same eyeliner/mascara!!
ReplyDeleteThought you'd enjoy my perspective and "real people information". :)
Love it Tiffy :) Thanks so much!!
