Total Eclipse of the Moon

If the title of this blog is making you have flaskbacks to 1983 and Bonnie Tyler running dramatically through an abandoned school, it should. Thanks to facebook and the fact that the homepage on Jared's laptop is msn.com, I became aware that a very historical event was taking place last night. For the first time since 1638, a total lunar eclipse was going to be visible from North America on the same night as the winter solstice. This will not happen again until 2094, and I don't know about you but I probably will not be around in the year 2094.

Whenever something historical is happening, Casey and I always make sure to share in the moment together in some ridiculous way. Yesterday afternoon when I found out about the lunar eclipse, I called her up and informed her that I was going to call her at 3:17am singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" to her over the phone. This may sounds odd, but to Casey it was completely normal. I tend to relate anything and everything to a cheesy 80s song, and sieze any opportunity to do so. Knowing that Jared and Casey both had to go to work the next morning, staying up all night to watch the entire eclipse was out of the question, unless I wanted to do it by myself. So I did my research and found out that the moment that the moon would be its brightest red/orange color would be at 3:17am.

I got up around 2:45am to make sure that I didn't miss anything. I ventured out into the 34 degree weather with the dogs and we had a great view of the moon. I turned off all the porch lights and never noticed how many stars I could see from my backyard. I guess sometimes it pays to live far away from everything in Jacksonville. I tried to take some pictures with my camera, but they did not turn out. Apparently, you need a fancier camera than mine to take pictures of the lunar eclipse, rude. When 3:10am rolled around, I called Casey and we enjoyed the eclipse together via phone date :)

The moon was pretty cool looking, plus I got to see some shooting stars. Since for some reason I have related "Total Eclipse of the Heart" to the lunar eclipse in my mind, I thought it would be appropriate for me to include the music video on this blog for your viewing pleasure.
