Spring Break Adventures {Timucuan}

I decided to spend my Spring Break this year exploring what the great outdoors has to offer close to home. I never realized how many cool and FREE things the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area has available for my entertainment. Today, Jared and I visited the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve which offers a ton of fun, outdoorsy things to do all for free.

First, we explored the Spanish Pond and Theodore Roosevelt areas of the park which have some great hiking and biking trails.

There are a number of trails throughout this area and we hiked them all, totaling about 6 miles of walking.

Glad I had my Boy Scout hubby along with me for the hike :)

A portion of the hike leads you uphill to a nice lookout over the marsh.

Jared and I had a blast hiking together!

I had to try out the panorama on my iPhone :)

One of the trails lets out at the marsh which is perfect for wildlife viewing.

There is even an observation platform so that you can get a great view looking out over the marsh

Of course, we found some trees to climb.

Jared just loves when I take his picture...not.

A portion of the Spanish Pond trail has this boardwalk, thanks to the good 'ole Florida flooding.

We had a great hike!

Next, we walked over to Fort Caroline to explore the fort and nature trails.

I loved hiking beneath the Spanish moss covered oaks.

Overall, it was a great day of hiking and exploring. There were a few areas of the Timucuan National Park that we did not have time to explore. I guess we will be going back for another trip soon!
