Jared and I went to Key West with his mom, dad and sister, and our friends, Mike and Emily. Upon our arrival in Key West, we went straight to lunch at the Raw Bar before embarking on our adventures of the day. At this point in the day, no one knows about the proposal that is going to take place once we get to the lighthouse except for Mike (obviously) and my husband, who Mike has enlisted to be his photographer for the big moment.
We rode around on the Conch Train for a while enjoying the beautiful weather and listening to our train conductor (who had some sort of speech impediment) tell us all about the history of Key West.
Finally, we made it to the Key West lighthouse. Have you ever walked to the top of a lighthouse? Let me tell you, there are a lot of stairs involved. By the time I made it to the top of the lighthouse, my knees were burning and I felt like I had asthma. I guess that's what happens when you never exercise.
While Erika and I are trying to catch our breath at the top, we turn around and look at what is happening...
Luckily, my husband was in on the plan so they were able to get some pictures of the entire proposal. It was adorable :)
After we were all able to get over the shock and excitement of what just happened, it was time to celebrate the newly-engaged couple with some drinks! First, we went to one of my favorite bars on Duval Street, Fat Tuesday, for some frozen deliciousness!
Then, we went to Capt. Tony's to continue the celebration. The tradition is that you have to try and throw a coin into the fish's mouth that is on the front of the bar. I have no idea what happens if you actually get the coin into the fish's mouth, but it was fun to try.
Needless to say, it was definitely a fun-filled day in Key West. Congratulations to Mike and Emily on their engagement!
It sounds like a wonderful trip. What a fun place for a proposal.
