Last week was Thanksgiving break and I did absolutely nothing besides eat, drink and hang out with my family. Hence the reason that it has taken me a solid week to write this post. I have spent this week catching up on all the things I should have been doing while I was off work for 6 days. Sorry, but when I am on vacation, I am on vacation. I don't do anything work related on my vacation days. Yes, it puts me behind, but it also helps me keep my sanity.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Any holiday that involves family, food, and football is right at the top of my list. I also really love the meaning behind Thanksgiving because it brings people together and helps us remember what we really have to be thankful for. I complain. Sometimes a lot. However, I complain about stupid stuff and sometimes forget that I really have a lot to be thankful for. I whine about my job constantly, but at least I actually have a job to whine about. I got a really bad head cold right before Thanksgiving and of course I acted like I was dying, but it lasted for 2 days and then I was all better. I have to remind myself that some people have illnesses that will never go away. Some people don't have a nice home or wonderful people in their lives who will do anything for them, but I do and I am very thankful for all of them.
This Thanksgiving, we stayed in Jacksonville and had all the festivites at my parents' house. Jared's mom and sister came and stayed at our house for the weekend as well. On Thursday morning, we did our traditional holiday morning breakfast: kielbasa sandwiches. In case you've never had one before, it is a Polish tradition and Jared's mom's side of the family is Polish. You put butter, mustard and kielbasa sausage on a potato roll...it sounds kind of weird but it is really delicious. I was apprehensive the first time I had one, but now Jared and I have carried on the tradition and every morning of a holiday we eat kielbasa sandwiches for breakfast.
We had to get to my parents' house early because Jared was in charge of the turkeys. We always have deep fried turkey every year and Jared takes great pride in deep frying the turkeys. This has worked out really well for me, since I will never have to learn (and probably fail) at baking a turkey in the oven.
While the men accompanied Jared around the deep fryer in the driveway with their cocktails and cigars, the ladies hung out with the food inside, enjoying our brandy slush.
Our Thanksgiving dinner was so delicious and we had enough food to feed the entire neighborhood. Luckily, we were able to use all the leftovers to provide the snacks for our football watching party on Saturday. In fact, I still have some Thanksgiving leftovers in my fridge.
We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving and I can't wait to get to spend time with my family again at Christmas. Since we did Thanksgiving in Jacksonville this year, we are doing Christmas in the Keys! I am really excited especially because my family is coming to stay in the Keys too so we will all still get to be together. It's going to be a fabulous Florida Keys Christmas! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!
