Book Warehouse Sale

Twice a year, the Jacksonville Public Library hosts the Great Jacksonville Book Sale. For 3 days, they sell thousands of old library books for super cheap. This event is such a blessing for teachers. As a reading teacher, I am required to have a small library of books in my classroom for my students to use for silent reading. Well, building a classroom library is pretty difficult and really expensive. This book sale allows me to stock up on tons of books for my classroom library without breaking the bank.

In order to get the best selection of books, you have to go either on Friday night or Saturday morning before all the books get picked over. I prefer to focus on the quantity of books that I am getting rather than trying to get a specific popular book. Therefore, I always go on Sunday of the sale for the $10 brown bag deal. They only offer this deal on Sunday...in a obvious attempt to just get rid of all the leftover books. You pay $10 for a brown bag and you get to fill it with as many books as you can. This year, I brought my own cloth bag with handles because the brown bags get super heavy. Here is my bag of books that I got for $10...

I was able to fill my bag with 50 chapter books for my students. I think that I was pretty successful here...50 chapter books for $10, that's a damn good deal :) Here are some of the books that I got...

I can't wait to add my new books to my classroom library tomorrow! This book sale is not just good for teachers, but for anyone who loves to read or has kids that love to read. When I have my own kids, I will definitely be attending this sale to stock up on story books for them. To all my fellow Jacksonville residents, there will be another book warehouse sale in the spring so be on the look out for it.
