Short and Sweet

I never thought in a million years that I would write a blog post about cupcakes. Why you might ask? Because I absolutely despise them. Anything involving cake and icing literally makes me sick to my stomach. People tell me that this is why I am so skinny...yeah right. Trust me I make up for what I don't eat in dessert in other really fattening things such as McDonalds. Anyways, this post is about my new favorite local cupcake bakery. How on Earth can someone who hates cupcakes have a favorite cupcake bakery? I know, weird. However, everyone around me loves cupcakes. Plus, cupcakes are very popular right now for parties, showers, etc. Alas, I tend to find myself in need of a good cupcake bakery that isn't ridiculously overpriced.

One of our good friends lives next door to the owners of Short and Sweet Cupcakes and that is how I was originally introduced to these wonderful people and their cupcakes. Every time they come over to our friends' house, they bring cupcakes...I mean, how could you not love them? And every time they bring these cupcakes over, every one goes crazy for them. I have never personally eaten one of their cupcakes, but I can refer you to at least 50 people who have and I can guarantee that all of those people will rave endlessly about these cupcakes.

When my mom and I decided to host a baby shower for my cousin's wife, I immediately volunteered to be in charge of the dessert. I knew exactly what I wanted to do...cupcakes. Short and Sweet makes these adorable mini-cupcakes that I just knew would be perfect for a bunch of women at a baby shower. Having planned a wedding before, I know what it is like to deal with vendors and I know what a gem it is when you find a really good vendor. Ordering these cupcakes was super easy, convenient and affordable. Plus, I love supporting local, family-owned businesses.

I chose a variety of basic flavors for the baby shower so that everyone could find something that they liked...chocolate, yellow pound cake, red velvet and strawberry cheesecake.

All of the ladies at the baby shower raved about these cupcakes. The small amount of icing is perfect because you get to enjoy the full taste of the cupcake itself and not just a giant glob of icing that makes you feel sick. The mini-cupcakes are perfect because you can eat more than one, so you get to try the different flavors, without feeling too guilty :)

And I haven't even told you the best part. Their bakery has a drive-thru. Yes, a drive-thru. That means that at any time during the day, you can just drive up to the window and order a cupcake, and you don't even have to get out of your car! They have a great customer reward program too. I'm already eligible for a $10 credit to their bakery and a free cupcake. So all my local Jacksonville people, you must stop by and try one of their cupcakes. Their bakery is located on University Blvd...you can't miss it because the building is shaped like a giant cupcake!
